Health Technology and Assesment

Program Information

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a study to explore, assess and sum up the data & evidence to examine the consequences of adapting a health technology. It is a versatile procedure that prioritizes to contribute towards making relevant decisions for prevention, analysis, treatment, and therapy of a disease. The focus is to devise secure and efficient health policies which are built for patients to get the best benefits on adapting to health technology. This is possible only after an in-depth study of short term and long-term outcomes of using a health technology. The emphasis is laid on obtaining considerable statistics on medical, societal, economic and ethical issues in relevance to using a health technology.

Utmost care is taken that the study procedures have an orderly and unprejudiced approach. The European Union Network of Health Technology Assessment organizations defines health technology assessment as "A multidisciplinary process that summarizes information about the medical, social, economic and ethical issues related to the use of health technology in a systematic, transparent, unbiased, robust manner. Its aim is to inform the formulation of safe, effective health policies that are patient-focused and seek to achieve the best value.'

Our Institution focuses on both theoretical concepts and practical training with our core components of the program involving the study of Framing an economic evaluation study, Costing in economic evaluation study, Outcomes assessment & quality of life (QALY), Reporting and Synthesizing cost & effects. Our students are trained to be well modulated for apt decision-making using Health Economic principles. They are taught how to optimize the quality of the clinical evidence by giving solutions to most of the problems arising from using Health Technology. Studying HTA at our institution will give our students the foothold into the real-world Health Assessment understandings such as benefits out of certain treatments, conclusions on all evidence available and how evidence on the cost of drugs can be used in HTA.
